Well for birthdays only it was.

Anyway, I and some more people get a fatal error when we try to send a pm. Just to report it.

Quote from: GrudgeThis is titled as a "Development Edition" as it contains some code which is from the next version of SMF (After 1.1 Final). We don't want people getting excited about anything new they see thinking it will make it into 1.1. 1.1 is feature frozen as of RC2, anything you see here that is not in RC2 will not be in 1.1 Final.

To answer the obvious question of why are we running a future version of SMF here already - simple - testing. We've already changed a lot for the next version of SMF and keeping it under test by running it here is a great way to catch bugs early and/or see how it performs under heavy use.

Does kinda answer your question.

Indeed. This is the first time about 5,000 lines of code have been tested on anything other than my local server with a total user base of me, and "test". Since installing it here I've already found about 20 bugs. I think Charter Members would be a little annoyed if we gave them a release like that. I will be very surprised if we release a first beta of the next edition this side of Christmas.

I think that its actually a good idea to test things out here. Not only do we get sneak peaks on up coming features but it does probably make it easier for the Dev's to spot bugs since loads more people are looking out for them and reporting them.

Well doing tests on a support forum can be kind of hairy.  When things work its great, but when we find 100+ bugs that affect our users its not so great :P

Oh... :o do you have a list? ;D

Thantos

Well this time we didn't have 100+ but it could happen if we aren't careful :P

David

We always have multiple branches of development going on simultaneously.  Flow for any release is generally:
1) simplemachines.org/community/
2) team members
3) beta testers
4) charter members
5) public

I don't know about you but I use a spoon.

"But why a spoon?"
"Because it'll hurt more you twit"

Dannii

You have a point.. death by spooning is the most painful execution method ever invented.

Ooops.. maybe a little off topic :P
