Modifying DB Collation

Hi,

Has anyone tried changing their collation for the DB to utf8mb4_unicode_520_ci  and had any errors.  I was curious before i changed it.   Thanks

Mb4 is not yet supported in SMF.

Making that particular change has a surprising number of interesting side effects and code that needs changing. I have done that (though I didn't go for the 520 variant collation) and it took me a very, very long time to work through the side effects I had.

Well just with Shawn PR for 2.1 we can get an idea.

I'd point you to my repo but sifting out all the relevant changes would take a long time too, I started the MB4 changes in 2017.

It would also require rethinking the installer and upgrader, though that's no bad thing.
