I've searched the MODS and the Community and can't seem to find a solution to this:

Love the Calendar feature for displaying Holidays and our member Birthdays.

However,  since we are a forum for discussing a sports team, I'd like to be able to put Birthdays of the players of our favorite team on the calendar as a "repeating" event.

It's not really a "holiday" so putting them in the calendar as such is not something I want to do.  Plus, editing the holidays on the calendar means having to navigate from page to page which is a pain.

Is anyone aware of a MOD I've missed that will allow this? One in the works?

For now, I'm putting them one at a time as an "event" as the calendar. I have to repeat this process as the calendar rolls over to another year.  With 25 man rosters, you can see where this could be tiresome.

Edited to add:  I did vote in the POLL in the other thread.  ;D

hmmmm?   The calendar already adds the member's birthdays into the list.... not as events, but as a list beneath the events for each day

Hmmm, please read again.

I said our members birthdays are fine.

It's the birthdays of players on the team that we discuss I want to add.

They are not members of our forum and wouldn't be.

And,  I don't think this should have been moved.

there ws a mod for repeating events. It has never been updated though.

There are also already many requests for recurring events in the feature requests section...

You are correc tthough. I moved it to the wrong board.  correcting and moving to mod requests

Yes, a very old version. I saw that.

I saw I wasn't alone in wanting this. I also didn't see where it had been answered as a "coming soon" item.

Yeah, I was following it from Feature Requests, to 2.0 Support to now the Mod Requests....
I tried to choose the proper place before posting, thinking the Feature Request fit.

I guess since it's now in Mod Requests that means unless someone comes up with a Mod, it's not in the planning stages as a feature enhancement.
Sigh...

actually, one thing that has been consdiered to to actually REMOVE the calendar as a default feature completely.
Many sites don't actually even use it.

It needs to be completely re-written - so removing it and recoding it as a fully functional mod/add-on is a better solution than trying to muck around with the current implementation.

I've done a fair amount of work to SMF 2.1's Calendar. At the very least, it looks a whole heck of a lot more like a Calendar and is much easier to follow the flow.

There were also quite a few "controls" already existing that were not available beyond the code which are now admin options, plus some new stuff for the layout. Although I didn't go as far as to add re-occurring events because we're trying to wrap up here shortly.

Stopped by here this morning searching to see if anyone has posted any new topics about Calendar Mods or to this thread.

The whole idea of dropping the Calendar feature altogether (as noted above) would make me very sad.

It looks like for those of us who really do like and want to keep the calendar (but need recurring events) - our only hope is a separate Mod written by a clever individual willing to help those of us who aren't.  ;D

Nah, after SMF 2.1, I'm going to work on the Calendar some more.

Bless you. I'm looking forward to what you come up with.  :)

My forum relies heavily on the Calendar being aimed towards the local community.

@Lab how would a function in a similar way to the profile fields sound for the calendar?
