Free SMF to Eggdrop

I found a mod for phpbb that looked interesting while looking for something else for another website. This mod uses an irc bot called eggdrop to automatically post messages from the forum into the IRC channel. This sounds like an interesting way to bring up topics for the users in the IRC server. There is a way to turn it off from in the irc if it becomes too annoying. I realize this mod was written by someone else but since you would be in essence writing a new mod the only thing you would have to use is there mod for allowing the bot to send the messages to the irc channel. I am also asking on the forums I found it on but not sure they know smf enough to do something like this as it is a support forum for the bot not the forum. VersionSMF 2.0 RC5Description
This mod would send posts specified by the admin of the forum and send them to the irc bot to be posted on the irc channel selected. The connection to the bot is done through telnet if I am not mistaken and I have a working setup of the bot to test the mod on.
Permissions
This mod should probably have the ability to give any group the permission to change what posts or boards are sent to IRC. The current phpbb mod gives mods the ability to disable a specific post from going to the irc as well as to the poster.
Feature Set
As said in permissions moderators have the ability to disable a specific post as well as the poster. Also the admin or groups with permission can set what boards or posts are sent. The current mod has the ability to specify by board id or by or by type. The types selectable are new topic, polls only, and the admin. I don't think I need the option for from the admin only but it might be useful to allow only posts made by a specific group of users to show up. Again I wouldn't use that option but someone else might.

have you looked into an rss feed script for your bot along with the rss feed from the forum to be fed to the bot?

I never even thought about that but that would prob be easier. Just to verify what you are proposing is to make an rss feed on the forums and have the bot read the rss feed? Do you know of an rss mod for smf for smf 2 rc5?

rss feeds are a default feature of smf. in smf 2.0 check your footer for the link and there is a thread in the tips board with more options that work with rss.

Ok thanks for the tip. I found a mod for the bot to read them already so that should be all i need.
