.... Yes but only when it works!
Yes SMF does need a better system, they do seem to be lagging behind with 'image management' than several other forums. Good/proper/simple image posting and management is a MUST in this day and age.

This is a very simple alternative to attachment mod. It works only with images and allows users to quickly add images to posts. All images are stored on third party image hosting service and bbcode for images is automatically inserted in posts when users upload images. Thumbnails are automatically created on image hosting server. This mod is very easy to install and very easy to use.
That's my firm opinion.... but what do I know?!

WELL your opinion matters to me.  This one is the best I can assure you right now.  Mine is working right out of the box, but then I do have a simple machine b2evolution forum (http://clayscottbrown.biz/CLAY/index.php?topic=8.msg35;topicseen#msg35 as well as the biz... dot biz... you know (http://clayscottbrown.biz/thebiz/index.php/b = entertainment is all.  We'd best stick to Simple Machines for some time to come...  and yes I do have 11 blogs on wordpress... lost the url: but hoping to buy it back again once it hits the public domain again.... couldn't afford those 'retrofit' charges is all... if you know what I mean.
:'(
Anyway, thanks for the chat.
:o
p.x.  no need to 'woory' too much about those 'links' there, so what if i get a million customers through this... sm would benefit as well.  sm isn't say adult swim after all.

did i say too much?

I can click on the link it has to post the images and that's fine. It opens the window where the images are held. However, when I click on an image I just get an error 404. This mod used to work great, not sure why it stopped working. To get around I right click the image and copy the location then manually post the pic on the post. I liked it when you could just click on it.

This appears to install with RC2 but images uploaded don't appear back in the post...

Sium, any upgrade planned?

It works with RC2 when wysiwyg is switched off in the editor.

YogiBear

Thanks for the tip, Cugel. I had the same problem with Dumpster and your solution worked.

It does not work with Prettyurks, I also get the same error as Bruno, is there a way to make it work with prettyurls?

the error I receive is:

The requested URL /forum/[i]TOPIC NAME[/i]/addform.html was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
sorry for my bad english

Is there a way to make this work with RC3?

sheryltoo

Or how about RC4? I can get the link to appear above the reply box and go to the site to upload an image but it doesn't add the image to my post.

Astra_200

As above, any plans for RC4?

Has anyone tried an alternative way of adding images to posts on RC4?

willerby

I use a combination of ...

Resize Attached Images

... a great mod that keeps attached images to a manageable file size and stops all the errors when users try to upload 5MB digital camera images

and

Simple ImageShack Upload Box

... modified to provide some text instructions to my neanderthal users. Fairly simple code edits to get it to look like the attachmemt below

Astra_200

Thank you. I do not allow attachments but the upload box looks interesting.

Do you find image shack reliable?

Like your idiots giude, how easy was that to include?

willerby

I find ImageShack ok but I'd prefer a flickr or photobucket mod.

The code edit to insert into post.template is below. Experiment with positioning somewhere just before or after

// If the admin has enabled the hiding of the additional options - show a link and image for it

...or you can use the <strong>Imageshack</strong> service below to embed photos into your post.<br />&nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp 1. Click <strong>Browse</strong> and select the image file from your computer, then click <strong>Host It!</strong>.<br />&nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp 2. A separate window will open the Imageshack website where your image will be displayed.<br />&nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp 3. Click in the box under the image marked <strong>Forum Code</strong> and <strong>Copy</strong> this code.<br />&nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp 4. Switch back to this New Message or New Reply window and <strong>Paste</strong> the code into your post above.<br />

It's very basic but it works!

Astra_200

Many thanks, appreciate your help and will have a play around :)
