- although I'd also be interested to know whether the early August estimate is deemed as being possible.

We cannot give a for sure date or timeframe as there are still quite a number of reported bugs that've yet to be fixed.

That said, i'm sure that, when it comes closer to that time, that notification will be given, either through an announcement or otherwise.  So with that in mind, please ensure that your email addresses are up to date.

And, the *projected* release of early August, is for charter members.  If you're interested, check out http://www.simplemachines.org/charter/

I CANT WAIT!

Of course you can. Everybody can. And not just where SMF is concerned, because we all *have* to wait for things that are not available or happening now! ;)

Even when it is released. If you like most smfowners and have lots of modifications installed, because of the major changes, it may take a while for them all to be updated.

This is true.  I run 2.0 on one of my sites and am really missing certain functionalities i'd like because of mods not supporting it.

That will be resolved eventually, of course.

The good thing about 2.0 regarding the mods, is that most of them would work just fine with the custom themes as well and not only with the default, as it has been the case until now.
So no more manual installation of mods people  ;)

metallica48423

not necessarily.  Some themes are coded differently and perhaps the searches will fail (albeit legitimately :P)

I agree its going to be easier to install on custom themes.  However i don't think you'll fully ever get away from having to do some form of manual edits to install certain modifications together [where it fail on the default theme]
(especially if your wanting to install tonnes of mods)

(for example with the link menu, lots of mods add new links in it, however because some use 'too much' code, its not possible to insert it.)

Maybe it should be a requirement that searching should only use a length of code as long as is required to be unique in the file.  Some search for half the page only to insert a line.

Well, i like the idea of Charter Membership. But i think $49.95 is kind of lil high.
SMF shud try to bring down the price a lil bit.

Is there going to be any kind of Release Candidate made available to non-charter members?

There was for SMF1.1.

There should be public RC. The beta will also be for public too. :)

Normally the major releases come to charter members prior to public (a week or two lead time).  Minor (bugfix/security) releases are released at the same time between sets of members..

Beta releases are a bit different.  The initial 2.0 beta(s) will most likely be for charter members only.  Then there will probably be a public beta.

Of course, none of that is solid yet, so do not quote me for it.   it is *not* insider info it is just how things've worked in the past.

The Release candidates for 1.1 were also made available to charter members prior to their public release.  Both groups, however, saw 1.1 RC1, 2, and 3.

What usually happens is two or three beta releases are given to the CMs only, followed by at least one public beta. There will then be at least one (hopefully only one if everything goes well!) public RC, before 2.0 final is released.

But you only want Charter membership to get the forum software releases eariler. The software is very easy to install and work. So you don't need the paid help.

Personally, the reason that I became a Charter Member it was more to show my support and appriciation for the very hard work the guys of the Team are doing to make SMF the great software that it is today. And for their willingnes as well, to help everyone that needs help. I mean, such a thing yo don''t come across very often today

Great work Team.

Dragooon

Yes That was one of my intention.

I am considering the charter membership myself. I have had problems with a few things but seem to have overcome a few of these. Not 100% ok with PHP but am trying. The cost is a little much for me right now, (about 60.00) but like a couple of others here, I agree it is well worthwhile. This IS freeware and still takes time for people to fix and update.

Thanks guys :D
