I was a bit confused myself as to what the modification does.

After looking at the install file, all it does is make ALL images link to the original image
(presumably because if the image is too big in height or width, smf will resize it)
So effectively what it does is <a href="myimage.jpg"><img src="myimage.jpg"></a>

However, it does not add its own button. It merely alters the code currently used by the [img] bbcode
It does not have a popup window, that mod can be found http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=781

Also a very big flaw in this mod is that if you already link the image, then it doesnt take that into account and encloses the linked image within link tags. (and so won't work correctly and won't w3c validate.)

Thats in smf by default
Admin > Features & Options
Max width of posted pictures (0 = disable)   
Max height of posted pictures (0 = disable)

It doesnt resize the actual image, it just sets a smaller height/width html attribute so they appear smaller.

So in effect all this mod would do, is link the image to the original so you could appear it as full size.

The "Demo" link now gets you to a login screen and nothing else.

I just verified this. If you have this BBC construct:

[url=link1][img]image_link[/img][/url]


the mod effectively changes it so that only image_link works as the URL, not link1.

The demo post by karlbenson where you add a pic to your post and when you click it, becomes a pic in it's own window. The picture remains the same size the whole time either in the post or outside the post. Is this because the size was small and SMF did not allow the html attributes to change the look of the pic?

I know you can control the size of how the pic looks in the post through admin panel by this:
Admin > Features & Options
Max width of posted pictures (150 = disable)   
Max height of posted pictures (0 = disable)
So does the mod allow when you click it will expand to the actual size and look in a pop up from its actual location if outside link?

I know the pic is never physically resized, except for by html attributes.

Does this make a difference in performance for loading page, by setting the pic smaller in the admin settings? 

I see this mod can make your board posting a lot neater, but if there is no performance gain to doing so, I'd just set the pictures to 640x??? and they should be fine aesthetically.

Does karlbenson's lightbox mod do the same but in a more eye pleasing way?

This package conflicts with registered images packages. This is a package that is needed as I do maintain smaller images on the forum for ascetics and ease of use. However i have many photographers on my boards that take nice large high quality photos. it would be nice for those that want to see the full size to do so.

Someone needs to update and improve this please
