Fehler: Your email address must be verified before logging in

What does the following error message mean:

Your email address must be verified before logging in
Specifically, this was noted in my error log and appears to have been displayed this way to a newly registered user. He hasn't posted a post yet either

What did he do wrong and maybe that's why(?) he can't post(?) or did I set something up wrong?

Previous users have been able to register, log in and post without any errors.
The registration is set to 'admin approval', so the activation is done by me.

This time, however, when approving I didn't just grant it, I also clicked on something that said something like this: the user has to activate something first. (can't explain it better)

That last part is key: user has to activate their email. This means they'll get an email from the site with a link in it that they can use to confirm the email is correct.

If they try to log in without this step having happened, they'll get the error you mentioned.
