Die Message Icon pulldown menu is hardly to see by novice users.

It would be really better if you add a pulldown arrow besides this icon, so the user see that they can select something !!

This is a site feedback - since that is only on this site theme.

P.S. IMHO those who don't realize the feature won't loose much - they simply stay on the default message icon which isn't a tragedy.

I think the user should at least know about the existence about this feature. Otherwise they lament about the absence of such a  feature.

perhaps a fine line around it (like when you mouse over) without the lighter background color would help. I actually really like how you can't see it's there until the mouse goes over, it looks really nice.
frankly I didn't even know it existed for a while - I almost never use this reply screen, quick reply is sooo useful! :)

it doesn't need an icon, it just needs a CSS border not only on mouse over, but just there... either a shade darker than the background grey - or the light alternating color.

or just insert a dropdownicon besides the current message icon.
