Profile Customization Similar to the Custom Profile Fields mod.

I think something similar to the Custom Profile Field mod should replace the current profile system of SMF and you should be able to move all the profile fields up or down like you can the ones you create with the mod, and add some other types of fields to chose from so the profile is totally customizable. Link fields, radio buttons, maybe even a post field, for things like biographies, or other info a site might want to have about a user but would be to big for just a basic profile text field, that would create basically a one-post topic that was only accessible from a link in the individual user profile. I'm sure there are other types of fields that could be added, I just can't think of any right now.

Lets face it some sites need a lot of fields in the profile others don't. Some sites need all those IM fields some don't. So why not make the profile work like the mod does. So each admin can add and remove the fields they need for their site. And so they can organize the fields the way they want.

Also I would make it so the admin could force almost any profile field to appear on the registration page and be either required or optional during registration.

Looking at the mod and looking at the profile.php and other files associated with the profile and mod. It really shouldn't be that hard to do or take a whole lot of coding to do. In fact I plan to attempt it myself on my site. Make the profile totally customizable and add a few more types of fields. Of coarse I have a lot of other mod projects that I want to finished first so maybe I'll get lucky and the next release of SMF will already have it in there for me and I won't have to.

I second this 100%. Also i would ad request that customization should also cover eisting fields. Fileds that are requred by forum should stay that way, but we should be able to set if field is required on registration, and if that field shouls dhow next to the user name in topics.

Also, for each custom field it is needed for admins to be able to set if field is visible next to the user name in topics, but for each board separately. That would allow us to customize user info regarding topic of the board

Me too..   hope someone will do a nice MOD like the one mentioned above BUT store the data in the in members table.

Not sure if the excisting MOD also deletes the entries when members are deleted from theTheme table.

For me it sounds more natural/logical to store all information about members in the member table.

IS it possibel for WINRUELS to modify his MOD?

We are currently involved with Joomla / SMF integration and we are replacing the Joomla Profile with SMF Profile.

If anyone is interested in customising Custom Field Mod to our requirement, we would like to sponsor it.
The immediate need we have is: The Custom Field Mod should have option to create fields of which depend dynamically.

Example: I want to add two field Cource and Year of Passing for a College.
The cource should have started in a year, so the Year of passing depends on the Cource.
Let us the institute offeres hxxp:b.sc [nonactive] and hxxp:b.tech [nonactive], and hxxp:b.sc [nonactive] is started in year 2000 and hxxp:b.tech [nonactive] is started in year 2004.

When we collect the registration information for the forum, We should have 2 fields
1. Cource   - - A Drop Down List with hxxp:b.sc [nonactive] and B.Tec as options.
2. Year of Passing - This should change based on what the individual has chosen in the course

So for example if the registering person chosees hxxp:b.sc [nonactive], the "Year of Passing" drop down list should consists of the options, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006.
Whereas if the registering person choses hxxp:b.tech [nonactive], the "Year of Passing" drop down list should consist of options 2004, 2005, 2006,

Example for above:-
Field One :- Year say 2003
Field Two :- Course   BE

There is a group called BE2003.

So based on the two fileds dynamically put member into the group BE2003.

Is it possible to have this feature also for us?

  Well as I had mentioned in my first post, I am working on a fully customizable profile fields mod, in my spare time. Since I have found out that they will not be adding this request to any 1.1 release, because it is to late in the development of the final 1.1 release, they may consider my idea for the next release. But I am not waiting, any ideas for types of fields or anything else you think should be a part of the mod post it here or send me a PM and I will try and make sure it can do what you want it to. Also if anyone would like to help with this project PM me as well.
