Howdy folks.

As a lot of you have notices, the development of the Enigma 2 portal has been on hold for almost a year. Unfortunately, the primary developers of the project had to move on, so we came to a resolution with the remaining developers and left it at that.

A year later, with the Enigma Community wondering what is going on, Chris (CrazyC) and myself have come to the conclusion that it is time for us to take action.

In light of this, we are launching our Sphinx Portal Project as a code fork of the original Enigma 2 project.

Right now, we have a release that corrects all known issues with the previous project, and are in testing of a beta version that (finally, we know) brings SMF 1.1.x compatibility into play.

Users/followers/lovers of Enigma are encouraged to give Sphinx a try as an alternative to the Enigma project.

Thanks.

CrazyC

Yes, it's true....  Luke and I are picking things up where we left off a year ago and are heading in a new direction on our own with the new Sphinx Portal from Dynamic Systems & Content Solutions.

Anyone that has been running Enigma 2 RC1 can upgrade directly to Sphinx 1.0 RC which will be a final within just a couple of weeks.

From there, for all of you that have been waiting for another SMF 1.1 compatible portal, you'll be able to upgrade to Sphinx 1.1 as it gets released in the VERY near future.

This project is well worth a look for anybody seeking a well integrated portal system for their site, or trying to deal with problems with their Enigma installs.  I was very happy with the easy installation and configuration of Sphinx on my site.

Firstly this is not an official fork or break away of Enigma 2! Enigma 2 has gone no where, the only thing that is gone is you two individuals!

a year ago I uploaded the work "I" had done to bring Enigma 2 to SMF 1.1 rc2 I uploaded and linked for the developers on 3/19/2007 before getting ill, then you two guys left off to work on further building your businesses and developing paid scripts / site designs or what ever the clients wanted, but you obviously left under false pretenses!

Luke and CrazyC I worked my ass of porting Enigma to become "Enigma UE or Enigma 2". If this had not happened the community would have died completely!

I worked through havening my hand crushed in a truck lift gate and got a good deal done to get E2 and SMF 1.1 RC2 functioning together!

When I first posted Enigma UE and went driving over the road you guys "the LSP Developers" not just Luke and CC,  worked to get What would be Enigma 2 cleaned up, and when I returned I worked the last few remaining files and then you guys cleaned that up.

I will admit that what I uploaded was a bit of an Enigma it self as I'm finding now but I mad the effort as long as I could, BUT I Initiated the ball rolling toward Enigma 2.1 to support SMF 1.1.X.

You guys have taking all this work that you said you had no intent on further being a part of! You have taken this work changed the title thought out the script, Enigma is not dead and you two gave up / removed you selves as Developers, and now violate LSP's Enigma 2 license by distributing our script with out proper copyright notices and links back to LSP!

You two are LOW!

I have spent the last year working my ass of to get insurance at my job to take care of my medical problems to find out that they are only covering 2 thousand dollars of the 10 thousand needed, my body is poisoning itself severely limiting what I can do, I have been waiting a long time to get better to continue the projects I had been working on!

From what I see you two left thinking you where the only ones that had ever done a thing on E2 which is for from any made up reality conjured up here!!!

So now you initiate what could have been progress by becoming lowlife script robbers!

CONGRADULATIONS!

Enigma will continue! And DSP was started off shady and Sphinx is not too replace Enigma2 and if I have anything to do with it, it will be known as the copyright breaking, license breaking rip-off it is!

I noticed you removed everyone who worked on Enigma/Enigma 2 and just put you two as the sole Developers!

Again You two are LOW-LIFE's!

And just so you know this is me the rest of the Developers of Enigma 2 don't want to waist there time with you! Just so you know this is me, the one who has tried to keep Enigma going through some of the craziest years of my life, and will continue to try to keep it going!

EDIT:
you know... at least Michele was tactful enough to continue including Eric M. as a developer even after pFabb evolved into Enigma! you guys are low!

Luke

First, my apologies to SMF and the community here, for someone dragging their personal business into an innocent party's forum vice contacting us directly. However, unless the moderators feel the need to clean the thread, I should at least address the issue.

Aquilo,

Actually, it is a fork. Whether supported or not by you personally, the agreement was reached a year ago between CrazyC, myself, and LSP as to ownership and rights to the code. We do have all necessary documentation per our agreement with LSP and I'm sorry you don't personally support it, but that's the facts and how it is.

Be advised that your rc2 items were not used, and we have no copies of that particular code, this is all the 1.0.x compatible E2 code in this regard. If you initiated a move to E2.1, we were not a part of it nor is our project.

In regards to our departure from the project, our intentions were made clear. They were not false, so I'm sorry if you feel that way. Life happens. It happens to us all. Had LSP continued on, this would not be an issue as there would have been no need for our project. However, the only finger that be placed is on the shoulders of that project and their support thereafter. Unfortunately, there wasn't any. So here we are, a year later, and no activity with the project or communication as to its status from the developers. After receiving a lot of email in regards to the subject, we decided to take action where there wasn't any action. The community over there was being shut out in the cold, and many moved on.

I'm sorry you're upset, but really you've had a year to do something, but haven't. Things happen, that's life. Our code is authorized, and is not in violation of any license. Kind of hard to violate your own license, you know. We have hidden nothing about the roots of the project, how it came to be, or where it is headed. Again, if you don't personally support it, that's your personal prerogative and I'm sorry your past year has been difficult. However that shouldn't have prevented the project from moving forward, which it unfortunately did not. The few remaining users had a need that was not being met, nor being informed that it was being met even if it was slow in coming to light. So, we've offered up our alternative.

However, I'm not here to flame, nor act childish. If you wish to continue this, SMF is not the place as they are an innocent third party. Again, I'll apologize for your post, although that's probably not my place. Please reevaluate  information, and then if you feel you need more discussion on it you can either take it up on your site, our site, or through email.

Luke sorry didn't mean to sound like I was Flaming you! 2nd no need to apologize for me! it's a public/open forum!

I am just utterly baffled over this, we had always had great communication between us! I worked as hard as I could on Enigma and you had even seen the work done to get Enigma 2 going forward.
with all the emails... why none here! you have had dev access to the forums the whole time and no questions about progress, no pm's, the next I hear is "lookie what we did!".

I wounder does it mean that each of the "Dev's" could have taken Enigma 2 and taken it 6 ways!? just wondering if all the work I did to get to E2 and now the work to get to E2.1 and so on should I keep it and make my open project? we where all Dev's when Michele left!

you know I tried giving Enigma UE to [unknown], but he was preparing to leave SMF, that's the feeling any way! ;) but what if!

any way sorry Luke hope to talk to you again as before, and under better circumstances and  more considerate actions toward those who have also put so much time into a project.

Quoteedit: just to be funny... I was just thinking that if... it where full on flaming... it would be the first in 7 years of following this community from it's infancy as YaBB. any way brain fart!

Interesting. Tried to go to the Lunabyte/Enigma site only to be redirected to tinyportal.  Guess you were wrong about Enigma2.

I think i will take a closer look at Sphinx now that v 1.1 is available.

Woah! This reminds me of the YAUWS portal (or MyiBPortal) for SMF days! It is a shame SMF never had the resources to create their very own CMS or portal for SMF. Rather we are all forced to choose a bridge and a portal/CMS which could ultimately cause a licensing issue.
I am not complaining here, I just remember the fights and script stealer's of late (see quadroplex post and why I left SMF humiliated here: (http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=16031.msg134576#msg134576)
Enigma was an LSP product and was eagerly awaiting it's release. I also have kept in touch with Eric who was working on a great project but had to abandon it due to his personal issues.
I miss the good 'ol days of YaBB and Yapp, the simple portals that we all loved. Now it is all about license restrictions and people trying to make it big.
A shame really.
I have been using vB for quite some time but ready to come back and yet, I see all of this bickering, all of these bridges, all of the staff I used to know and respect gone. Yet, things stay the same.
I am sorry about your hand Aquilo, and Michele was tactful and very professional in her approach. Aquilo, Rowan, maybe things will work out in the near future. Competition is great and provides us all with options but there are so many "former friends" out there that used to work together now becoming enemies it is sad.
Look me up sometime guys, I've followed you all from Yabb, Yabb SE1, Yapp, to Xoops, Invision, SMF, to now vB.
I hope you all can work things out as I am always watching to follow the next direction you all take.
Rant done and I wish you all well.
